Origin

The ginger plant was probably first discovered in the tropics of Southeast Asia. Some botanists even assert that the Sanskrit name of the plant points to an Indian origin.

Ingredients

The seemingly unremarkable ginger root contains a large number of vitamins and minerals, such as potassium, calcium, and iron. Moreover, its broad profile boasts an above-average content of essential oils, such as shogaols and gingerols.

The name ginger

Ginger got its botanical name, “Zingiber officinale”, from the famous eighteenth-century Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus. He derived the name Zingiber from the Sanskrit word “singabera”, which is tantamount to “horn”. The best-known part of the ginger plant, that which is put to commercial use, is the irregularly shaped part that grows below the soil, the rootstalk (actually “rhizome”), which is often simply referred to as “root”.
